Chapter Nineteen

Chinen slowly took his time and walked home. That day, the wind was rather strong, which chilled him to the bone. Looking around, everybody was seemed to be very happy, in their joyous mode ever, why did only Chinen feel himself so lonely, helpless? He looked at the road. The cars passing by the streets, the people walking home, why?

He had wished that the agency did not give him a break due to the upcoming examination they going to have in a month time. Chinen walked, feeling lost himself. He remembered the scene when Aiko walked towards Hiroyuki, grabbing his wrist. Have Aiko decided to return to Hiroyuki’s side?

“Aiko!” Riko’s voice was heard clearly along the passageway. Riko finally found Aiko, but she was with Hiroyuki. Grabbing her wrist, she walked passed Aiko, and shouted, “Come with me!”

She was dragged towards the small corner of the corridor. Riko by then, have let go of Aiko, and stood there motionless, uttering nothing. “Riko, what’s wrong?” Aiko asked, oblivious to Riko’s action.

“Is it true that you’re back to Saito?” Riko asked, turning around and facing Aiko. “Have you forgotten what he done to you the last time?” Aiko uttered nothing, and without facing Riko, she faced down. She herself did not know how to answer Riko.

“Aiko! Answer me!” Riko practically shouted at her, grabbing her shoulders.

Aiko shut her eyes, and clenched her fist, Was this her final decision? Yet, she chose to remain silent. Is this ok? Will she not regret her decision?

“You love Chinen right!? Why aren’t you staying beside him!?” Riko shouted. Aiko turned away, there is no way Riko will understand her.

Aiko released herself from Riko’s grip. She then took a few steps away, and bowed down, expressing her apologies. Then, she stood up, and looked at Riko again. “I’m sorry, Riko-chan. One day, you’ll.. understand me, one.. day,”

Aiko left Riko, and she probably never appeared in front of Riko anymore.

“Riko!” Yuto have called out loud for Riko, who was sitting right at the side of the lake. “Yuto-kun,” Riko called out. Yuto walked over and settled down beside Riko, of course, right behind him was Yamada. “Yama-chan,” Riko greeted him together, Yamada settled down on the right of Yuto.

“Are you okay?” Yuto asked. Riko looked up to the sky, and sighed. “I just don’t understand Aiko,”
“Riko-chan, cheer up. Friends do argue once in awhile, you’ll know it soon,” Yamada consoled her. All Riko did was smile back, doing nothing. Yuto looked Yamada, the older boy was obviously worried for Riko, just he did not utter anything, and probably he didn’t want to trouble her any further.

“Riko, don’t think so much, everything will be fine,” Yuto said. Now that is what a matured person will say. Yamada lied onto Yuto’s shoulder, and Yuto placed his hand over the shoulders of Yamada. Silently, three of them sit there, like everything in the world doesn’t matter to them at all.

“Chinen!” Yuto called out when he realized Chinen was sitting at the chair alone. Chinen turned back and realized that there visible eye bags under his eyes. Yuto and Yamada looked at each other, and walked over to Chinen. Riko bid goodbye, and walked over to her seat.

She was waiting for Aiko to arrive in school, so that she could apologise to what she have said to her the previous day. Soon, the bell ringed, class have begin. Riko looked over to the empty seat beside her.

Aiko wasn’t in school that day. What happen?
