She stared at her phone keypad. Should she call? Slowly, her fingers shivered as she pressed the numbers. The caller has picked the phone up within three rings. "Moshi moshi?" the voice was deep. "Eto~ Nakajima-san?"
"Ah! Takasugi-san right!? You really called!" the caller replied. “Ahaha! Is my voice weird? Why aren’t you saying anything?” the caller replied again.
Riko recovered from her shock before she started to talk. “Nakajima-san? I”m sorry, just I got shocked for a moment, I never expect.. ahaha,” Laughter could be heard from the phone, and Riko have know the next sentence that is going to come from Kento.
“You’re really an interesting person,”
Riko just smiled at that comment, and both of them talked through the night.
The next day, the four of them have met each other again at the canteen. Riko, as usual biting onto her peanut butter spread. “Takasugi-san!” a voice called. Riko turned behind, and realized it was Kento. “Ah! Nakajima-san! Go.. Good morning!” Riko blurted. Yuto, who sat across the table suddenly, thought that Riko was calling him, but when he looked up, he realized it was Kento. “Ah! Kento, what are you doing here?” Yuto asked. Yamada turned and looked, it was Kento! “Kento-chan! Come and sit with us!” Yamada offered. Chinen stood up, and moved over a seat away from Riko, Kento just looked at his senior been dull, and without asking anything, he settled down on the place where Chinen had gave him to sit on.
“Yuto-kun, Yamada-kun, Chinen-kun, good morning!” Kento greeted. He then turned towards Riko, “Good morning, Takasugi-san!” Riko just smiled at Kento, before she continued eating on her bread. “Kento, you know Riko?” Yuto asked, as he picked up the onigiri in his plate, and transferred over to Yamada’s plate. Yamada picked it up, and ate it, his eyes fixed on Kento.
“Yes! Yesterday I bumped into her,” Kento replied. Then, he looked over to Riko, “Right, Takasugi-san?”
Riko just looked down onto her tray, and nodded her head.
A smirk surfaced onto Yuto’s face, and Yamada have immediately noticed it. It seemed that something is going to happen between Riko and Kento. On the other hand, Kento have also realized Chinen was not right, but he didn’t really asked. Few minutes later, Chinen excused himself.
“What’s wrong with Chinen-kun?” Kento asked once Chinen have stepped out of the cafeteria. The three of them looked at each other, before they went silent. “Well.. alot of things happened during these three years,” Yamada said, as he played with his onigiri ball on his plate again. “There’s nothing really..” Riko mumbled. Kento turned towards Riko, and realized that there was some guilt visible in her eyes.
What on earth happened?
“Class! Attention please!” the teacher have clapped his hands together, and got the attention from the class who were having their own little chats. Riko hurriedly stumbled back into her seat, and settled down. “From today onwards, we’re having an exchange programme. It means that, students from different departments will join the chosen classes for the year, and joined in their lessons. This way, there are more interaction between various departments too,” the teacher paused, and signalled to the door. The slid door opened, and the students revealed, could make Riko’s mouth widened, as big as a hippopotamus mouth.
“Please introduce yourself,” the teacher instructed. Three students stood in front of the class.
“I’m Nakajima Yuto, nice to meet you!”
“I’m Yamada Ryousuke, nice to meet you!”
“Nakajima Kento! Please guide me along, and nice to meet you!”
Riko’s mouth was still wide open, until when the teacher have assigned seats for the three of them, and that Kento passed by Riko, before he closed her mouth for her.
“Why didn’t you tell me!?” Riko shouted at the three of them during lunch break, for hiding it from her. The three of them looked at each other. “We didn’t know it until this morning! When we went for lesson, our teacher have called us, and told us about this arrangement! I was shocked to see Yama-chan and Kento over there too!” Yuto explained, lowering his head. Riko stood up, shaking her head. Few minutes later, she suddenly jumped up and down, as she held onto Yamada’s hand on one side, and Yuto’s hand on the other side.
“We’re in the same class again! YATTA!” Riko screamed in delight. Kento, who was sitting on the floor then asked. “Same class?”
“Yes! We used to be in the same class in High School back then! Isn’t it cool!?” Riko shouted, as her hands went through both of the boys’ arms. Kento smiled, this was the first time Riko was smiling so widely. “Was High school fun?” Kento asked again. The three of them looked at each other, before Riko’s hands fall from the arms of both. Riko looked at Kento, and smile bitterly.
“Sort of, fun, I guess,”
Jackpot. What did Kento said this time? He could only blame himself for been stupid to ask such a question.
“Eh? Saito-kun, am I really going to study here?” Aiko asked, as she turned towards him. Hiroyuki nodded his head, “But why isn’t Saito-kun coming with me?” Aiko asked again, pouting slightly. Hiroyuki patted her head, and added on, “Sorry Aiko-chan, I have my own school back in Singapore, I can’t possibly transfer here, since I’m in university and the modules studied are different,”
“But, I’ll be lonely!” Aiko grumbled, tugging onto Hiroyuki’s sleeve. “Don’t go, Saito-kun,”
“I’m really sorry Aiko-chan, but, I won’t be leaving soon, wait till you’ve settled into here, and make some friends, then I’ll leave, alright?” Hiroyuki patted her head, Aiko just slightly nodded, before she got inside the car, and Hiroyuki drove her home.
Will her days in Japan from now on be smooth?
Chinen slowly paced himself home. He wasn’t feeling so great after meeting Aiko at the rooftop the other day.
‘Amnesia’
How come Aiko will have amnesia? Did something happen to her during the three years? If so, what happened? Chinen cursed and swear himself for been useless, as he walked slowly to the company. He hoped that work could probably cover up his own sadness and sorrow.
Opening up the dressing room door, he was greeted first by the mother of JUMP.
“Chinen, you’re late,” Yabu pointed towards the clock. Chinen mumbled a very soft apology before he settled down onto the sofa, his mind filled only with images of the times in high school, the airport scene, and the rooftop scene.
A pat on his shoulder was felt, and Chinen rose up his head. “Chii, you okay?” It was Daiki, his best mate in JUMP, I supposed. “Yea, I’m fine,” Daiki titled his head, before he came forward and sit beside him. At the side, the other JUMP members were observing the pair.
“You’re not fine, don’t lie, Chii,” Daiki said, his eyes looking straight into Chinen’s. Chinen smiled, “Dai-chan, you’re been serious,” Daiki looked around, and realized that the other members were trying to content their laughter within them. Daiki pouted, and turned towards Chinen again. “I don’t care! Anyway, Chii, something is bothering you, right?”
Chinen stared at Daiki, before he looked away. “I’m fine, don’t worry,”
“CHII!” Daiki screamed. Then, the other members started bursting into laughter. Ryutaro was laughing hard, and Keito was beside him, trying to calm him down, with he himself laughing. Takaki was beside Inoo, and followed by Yabu, and Hikaru.
Daiki pouted, as he placed his legs up onto the sofa. Chinen was smiling at Daiki’s seriousness. Oh well, JUMP just love to tease that boy whenever he got too serious, and they’re so not used to it. Inoo walked up, and hugged his beloved from his neck. “Alright alright, don’t go pouting, we’re sorry, Dai-chan,”
The door was flunked open, and the last two members of JUMP arrived. “AH! Sorry we’re late, school had something on!” Yamada panted, as he wiped away his perspiration dripping down from his forehead. Yabu then glanced at them, before shaking his head, and signalled all of them to gather for the rehearsal.
The rehearsal took longer than Chinen expected. During the rehearsal, Yabu and Hikaru were been serious, and Yamada and Yuto were snuggling up to each other closely. Inoo and Dai were fooling around, and Keito and Ryutaro was having their usual own time. Chinen sighed, as he practised his own dance steps, hoping in this way, he could forget everything.
After the rehearsal, the dark clouds have started to loomed pass the sky. Then, it started to rain heavily. Chinen left the studio, without even waiting for the other JUMP members. By the time all of them came out, they saw Chinen walking under the rain, his body drenched from head to toe.
“Yuto, what’s wrong with Chinen?” Ryutaro asked, his hands holding onto Keito’s arms.
“Eh?” Yuto turned around, to meet Ryutaro’s gaze. He looked down to Yamada, who was beside him, both their hands interlaced with one another.
“I don’t know,” Yuto replied, as his hand tightening the grip of Yamada. Yamada then opened the umbrella, and they walked back to their apartment, leaving the other JUMP members thinking of the mystery of the three university students.
“Class! Please listen!” the teacher clapped her hands once again. The class have diverted their glance over to the teacher. “We’re having a transfer student today, please do welcome her,” the teacher clapped her hands, and the door was slid open.
“Please introduce yourself,”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Sugihara Aiko!” the girl greeted, her face beaming with a radiance smile, one that could shined so brightly, even if the world is engulfed in nothing but darkness.
Yuto, Yamada and Riko turned and faced each other. They can’t believe that Aiko is appearing in front of them, and.. in the same class?!
“Sugihara-san, please sit beside Nakajima-san. I mean is, Nakajima Kento-san side. There’s two Nakajima, please don’t get mistaken,” the teacher explained, stammering. Soft giggles could be heard, and Aiko just bowed her head, and walked over towards the direction the teacher has pointed. Tugging her legs neatly under the table, she turned towards Kento, “Yoroshiku! I’m Sugihara Aiko!”
Kento smiled to her, “Yoroshiku. I’m Nakajima Kento,”
“Yu-kun, do you think something is wrong with Sugihara? She doesn’t seems to recognise us..” Yamada commented, as he picked up his egg and placed it into his mouth. Yuto pondered a bit, before he turned towards Riko. “Riko, what’s wrong?”
Riko lowered her head, and turned towards Chinen. Chinen was solemnly eating his food, like nothing has happened. Sighing, and knowing that Chinen would not say anything, Riko finally spoke.
“Amnesia!?” Yuto and Yamada have said in unison. Kento, at the side, was listening, but he didn’t know anything, and he knows he shouldn’t ask. Afterall, it’s his senior high school matter. Riko just nodded her head, and turned towards Chinen. Yuto turned as well, and asked, “Chinen, you know about this?”
Chinen rose up his head, “Yes, she forgets about me too,”
Just then, the door of the rooftop was opened, and running footsteps was heard. “Ah! Nakajima.. Nakajima Kento-san!” A voice was heard. Kento turned, and realized it was Aiko.
“Sugihara-san?”
“Teacher is looking for you,” she said, as she pointed towards the door. “It’s urgent, she said,” Kento got up, and thanks Aiko, before he ran off, telling the others that he’ll be back soon. When Aiko was about to leave the rooftop, Yamada have stopped her. “Sugihara!”
“Um.. If I’m not wrong, you’re.. Yamata Ryousuki?” Aiko asked. Yamada smacked his head, “Yamada Ryousuke!”
“Oh! Sorry! I’m bad at names,” Aiko apologised, as she giggled, with her hand covering her mouth. “Sugihara, you really don’t remember us?”
Aiko tilted her head. “Am I supposed to remember you guys?” Aiko asked. This time, she walked towards them. She settled down, and slowly speaks.
“You know, I’ve no memories of what happened to me two years ago. I only had memories of my two years, and nothing at all,” Aiko explained, her face becoming sorrowful, lonely.
“Saito-kun is the one that helped me so much,” Aiko said, he voice lightening. “And.. for that, I like him,”
“Anyway, the past doesn’t matter, what matters now, is that I’m happy that’s all!” Aiko said, as she stood up, and prepared to walk off from the rooftop. Chinen clenched his fist, and stood up. With the next sentence, Riko have immediately stood up, and send a punch onto his face.
“Why don’t you confess to Saito-kun then?”
