<< PART TWO

She decided it's time to go to school. It's useless cropping herself up in her room when she couldn't even change anything. "Riko! You finally came! I've called you for the nth time on your phone but it just doesn't seemed to get through..." Aiko hurriedly said as she ran up to her.

"Sorry guys, I've made you all worried.." Riko mumbled, her voice weak and shaky. "It's okay," Aiko smiled, and patted her shoulder. "We should head on to school," Abby replied before she grabbed onto one side of Riko, while Aiko on the other side.

To Riko, everything seemed so hazy and blur. Aiko and Abby just eyed each other, afterall, they have problems themselves as well.

Once the three girls stood in front of the school, they gazed at the building, but didn't have the thought of entering at all. Suddenly the same thinking flashed through the three girls at the same time. "Let's skip school," with that, three of them linked their hands together, and ran the opposite direction from the gate.

The bright sun is hot enough to cover them in an invisible blanket of warmth. With the blue ocean waves crashing against the cluff, the girls walked along side of the beach and starting giggling at their truant.

"Ah ah, how long have it been since three of us skipped lessons together?" Abby sounded out, as she took a deep breadth. "Let's see... I forgotten!" Aiko laughed out.

Three of them settled down onto the sand and gazed out to the wide horizon. "This feels great," Riko mumbled, with the other two nodding their head in agreement.

How long will this happiness last?

***

"She's not here... why?" the guy thought to himself as he looked to the side. Why isn't Abby here?

"Is it my fault?" the guy asked himself. "Tegoshi-san, please stop day-dreaming and listen to class," the teacher called out before he turned back and looked at the whiteboard, with the corner of his eyes still looking at the empty seat beside him.

***

The girls started to feel the heat grazing against their skin, so they decided to walk to the nearby cafe to have an ice-cream instead. "We used to play together when we're young. It's like, we're telling each other practically everything, but now..." Riko said as she lowered her head.

"We're all grown-up, we definitely have things we can't tell each other," Abby continued.

Aiko kept quiet, and nodded her head. "But one day, one day, we'll say it,"

Three of them looked at each other, before a wide smile appeared on their face.

"Dear..." her voice trembled, as the middle-aged lady grabbed onto her husband's hand tightly. "What's wrong with you, acting all traditional," the man replied.

"Dear?" the lady looked at her husband. "I don't mind them been together you know, do you?" the man said, as he bring the lady into his embrace.

"But Riko, she still thinks it's not right for them to be together, afterall, we're both married, and Yuya is her brother,"

"I know, but they're not blood-related, so under the law, they can still be married," the man said again, assuring her wife.

"I hope she will realized that soon enough,"

***

Inside her pocket, her phone was vibrating non-stop. She took it up, and saw the caller-ID before she stuffed it back into her jacket. "Who's that?" Riko asked, as she placed one spoonful of ice-cream into her mouth. "Nobody important," Aiko mumbled, as she continued digging her ice-cream.

"Aiko, I just wanted to tell you that, you should just forget about that Saito guy," Abby said. Aiko looked at Abby, before she stared back to her ice-cream. "Chinen-san likes you right? You should just go for him," Abby continued.

Aiko remained silent, as the scene from the night before bypassed her.

"Sorry guys, I... I need to go," Aiko said, before she stood up and grabbed her bag. "AIKO!" Both of them shouted together, before Aiko turned. "Good luck," Riko and Abby said together.

Aiko smiled, and she pushed open the cafe's door.

***

"I'm home," he said as he pushed opened the door. "Yuya! Welcome back," the lady said as he greeted her son. "I'm home, mum,"

"Yuya, come over for a second. Your dad and I have something to talk to you about,"

Takaki walked over to the living room behind his mother, and he saw his father sitting in the living room, with a what seems to be like a jewellery box on the table. "This is for you," his father said, as he pushed the box to Takaki.

"What's inside?"

"It's our wedding ring," his father said, as he looked at his wife and smiled.

"Why..." Takaki wanted to asked, before he stopped. He looked at his parents, and tears started welling up in his eyes. "Can... I?"

Both of them nodded their head.

"Ah, the sky is getting dark, we should head home now," Abby said as she gazed up to the sky. "See you tomorrow then," Riko said before they parted their ways.

What Riko didn't know was what was awaiting for her at home.

***

"AIKO!" a shout of her name, and then a force was felt behind her. She saw that familiar hands around her waist, and that familiar figure leaning his head onto her back. "Chi..nen?"

"I'm sorry," he said as he retracted back. Aiko turned back as he realized Chinen had one of his hand on his head, while he bended his head low. "Chi..?" Aiko mumbled, which made Chinen widened his eyes and looked up at her.

"I like that name," Chinen said, with a smile on his face. Aiko blushed as she turned away.

"Chi, about.. about Saito and.." before Aiko could say, Chinen just ran up to her, and embrace her again. "Right, I don't want to hear you mention that name ever again,"

Aiko nodded her head, and Chinen could feel her movement. "It's all over, because now, I will be the one protecting you,"

Aiko placed her hands onto Chinen's back before she buried her face into his crook.

"Aiko, will you be my girlfriend?" he whispered softly into her ears.

Aiko nodded her head again, as tears dripped down from her eyes.

Walking along the dark street with only a few street lights on, Abby gazed up at the sky. "Damn it, where did all the stars disappeared to?"

As she reached her void deck, she saw a figure at the lift. She slowly walked up, ignoring that figure. She pressed the button, and waited for the lift to come down, when she felt a pat on her shoulder. She grabbed onto the hand and twisted it, before shouting could be heard.

It was seriously familiar.

"ABBY! ABBY! ITS ME!"

Tegoshi?

"What the hell are you doing!?" Abby let go of the hand, and looked at the half kneeling Tegoshi in front of her. "I was waiting for you!" he screamed, as he looked at the wrist of his hand.

"SEE! It's red now!" Tegoshi whimpered, as he slowly got up to his ground. Abby scratched the back of her head, before she started to apologize. "In any way, it's your fault to begin! I thought it was a stalker or something!" she retorted, and this made Tegoshi kept quiet.

"Sorry.. cause you didn't come to school today, so I was worried," Tegoshi mumbled. Abby looked at him, before he lowered his head. "How did you know where I stay anyway?"

Shit.

Tegoshi started stammering, before he started to try to change the topic. The lift came, and Abby just wanted to get into it, but it seemed that she was stuck to the ground, not wanting to move an inch. Knowing that he couldn't go anywhere, Tegoshi sighed.

"Fine, I'll just tell you," Tegoshi walked over to the seat and settled down. Abby followed behind. "Few years back, when you were with Yamada-senpai, I already started to like you,"

"Back then, you were so happy with Yamada-senpai, so I didn't want to confess to you. When I heard you and him broke up, I admitted, I was kind of happy, but that happiness on your face you had with him disappeared along, it was as if.. you've become so listless,"

"So it was when I decided to follow you back home, and made sure you're home safely. That time on the streets, I didn't approach you coincidentally, I did it on purpose. I wanted you to know about my existence, but it's always the same, you never noticed me,"

Abby slowly absorbed every word, and she looked at Tegoshi, whose head was lowered by then. Tegoshi then looked up, and grabbed onto her hands. "Abby, please, give me a chance to love you, and to protect you. I'll make sure that the happiness you've lost years back to be returned to you!"

The warmth from Tegoshi's hand have already re-confirmed Abby's decision.

She finally smiled, and fall down, with Tegoshi hands grabbing onto her arms. "You caught me,"

The sound of the door was heard, and Riko slowly entered the dark and empty house. "You're home," a voice was heard, and Riko have turned and realized it was her brother.

"Yuyan, I.." Riko mumbled softly. "I'm home.." before she closed the main door. "Dad and Mum is asleep already, I was waiting for you though,"

"Mmm.." she whispered, before she started to take out her shoes.

"Can we talk?" Takaki asked. Riko looked down at her feet, before she wore the house slippers, and walked behind Takaki to the living room. Both of them settled down onto the sofa, and few minutes later, Takaki spoke.

"Riko, I.."

"Yuyan, I'm sorry!" Riko said, as she shut her eyes, her hands gripping tightly onto the hem of her skirt.

Takaki looked up and gazed at Riko. Riko by then had tears welling up in her eyes. "I ... I didn't know what was wrong with me the other time. When Yuyan came close to me, my heart was beating hard and fast, and I was having difficulty breathing! When you always talk to me, I feel kind of embarrassed, and it was as if... as if..." Riko stopped, and her hands were starting to tremble.

"As if?" Takaki smirked.

"As if... I..." Riko had trouble finding the correct words to come out of her mouth. "I'm in love with you,"

This made a devilish smile grazed onto Takaki's lips. Finally.

"Took you long enough to realized that, Riko," Takaki said, as he stood up, and settled down beside Riko. Riko's heart started to beat hard and fast again, as Takaki hold onto her hand. But this time, she know it will going to be fine.

"Riko, we'll be happy forever, so please don't ever push me away anymore, I don't want to be your brother, I want to be the one that can take care of you for life," Takaki said, as he placed his hands into his pockets, before he grabbed the box his parents entrusted him with.

"We're definitely going to get married in the future," was all Takaki said which made Riko jumped into his embrace.

***

It was as if everything was already path neatly for them, and it just need them to realized what is going on.

For us, it was that small little happiness that hold us back together.
